Predicting The 8 Biggest Film Trends Of 2016

5. Redemption For Jon Spaihts

Potentially Seen In: Doctor Strange, Passengers Prometheus was an incredibly divisive movie. Its supporters cite the incredible visuals and imagination behind the story, while its detractors often point to the abundance of plot holes and unanswered questions. No matter which side you fall on, a lot of these fervent opinions stem directly from the script, which was penned by one Jon Spaihts. The thing is, Spaihts kind of gets a bum rap for the screenplay, since his original draft was a much more satisfying Alien prequel that was subsequently re-arranged by Damon Lindelof and Ridley Scott to make it a more accessible film. So while some in the general public may malign €˜that guy who wrote Prometheus,€™ anyone who knows enough to recognize Spaihts€™s name is likely already familiar with this. Of course, those in charge were aware that Spaihts still had promise, and the fruits of his labour will be seen in the final months of 2016. He penned both the original draft for Doctor Strange as well as writing the aforementioned Passengers. Both films look very promising this early on, and their success could completely absolve him of any blame for Prometheus.
