Predicting The 8 Biggest Film Trends Of 2016

4. Good Remakes No One Asked For

Potentially Seen In: Ghostbusters, Ben-Hur, The Magnificent Seven Remakes are an inescapable feature of Hollywood and to simply say that 2016 will, like so many other years, be proliferated by them, is not much of a bold prediction. And while it€™s easy to be cynical of constantly going back to the same stories, the offerings this year may not be completely without merit. Ghostbusters seems to be the poster child for the remake that nobody asked for. The original is fine on its own and the female cast comes across as gimmicky, and yet, the caliber of the people involved suggests it could surprise everyone. This applies to a lesser extent to remakes of the epic Ben-Hur, and the western The Magnificent Seven (which ironically, was also a remake of Seven Samurai), as both original movies can still be enjoyed and don€™t exactly have an audience clamouring for a new instalment. There€™s almost nothing to go on to evaluate these movies and it€™s possible they all further promote the cynicism that remakes typically garner, but maybe they all pan out and this year spawns the rebirth of a few beloved movies. At the very least, they€™ll make everyone appreciate the originals even more.
