Predicting The 8 Biggest Film Trends Of 2016

3. Spinoffs Better Than The Originals

Potentially Seen In: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Speaking of ways to squeeze existing properties for all they€™re worth, when a franchise is too recent to be rebooted, there€™s the tried-and-true method of the spinoff. Studios can play on the familiarity of the film€™s universe while crafting entirely new adventures to keep the brand alive. 2016 is an especially notable year in spinoffs since it features arguably two of the biggest franchises in film history getting new entries. Star Wars just proved what a colossal juggernaut it still is and the franchise has no signs of slowing down with Rogue One, a heist movie set prior to A New Hope. Likewise, Harry Potter is turning back the clock and focusing on the adventures of a magizoologist in New York. The thing is, both of these films actually sound extremely interesting in their own right. They both have unique stories to tell that feel like they could stand on their own while still tying into the franchises we know and love. Whether these films actually surpass the originals remains to be seen, but the mere fact that there appears to be a legitimate potential for that to happen ought to suggest how promising these spinoffs look compared to the usual fare.
