Predicting The Post-Credits Scenes Of Every Major 2018 Comic-Book Movie
1. Aquaman 2 Villain Setup - Aquaman
The Movie: The only movie in the DC Extended Universe to open in 2018, Aquaman will tail Arthur Curry as he becomes the ruler of Atlantis.
DCEU movies haven’t been too fond of post-credits scenes (only Justice League and Suicide Squad have them), but since Aquaman is DC’s only cinematic representative next year, the company will likely want to cram it with as much stuff as possible.
The Post-Credits Scene: Speaking of cramming things in, Aquaman is set to feature a lot of antagonists, including Ocean Master, Nereus, and Black Manta, with rumours of The Trench appearing too.
It sounds like a lot to fit in, and the filmmakers have to be aware of this. So, maybe one of these villains is a 'sequel plant', in that their screen time in the first film will be limited, but their arc will set them up for a fully-fledged villain role in the sequel - think Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo in Doctor Strange.
If this is the case, the likely candidate has to be Dolph Lundgren’s Nereus. He was added to the cast right before production began so his role can’t be too important, and in the comics, he’s leader of the Xebels, a group of exiled Atlanteans - meaning he won’t be hanging around Atlantis, the film’s primary setting, too much.
Interestingly, the 'Rise of the Seven Seas' comic arc finds Nereus offering to team up with Ocean Master - this is what the post-credits scene could be. Maybe the two try to seize the Atlantean throne in the first movie, are foiled, and so choose to join forces and come back with a vengeance in the sea-quel.
It would be a great bit of sequel-baiting (especially if audiences like the two characters), and would give the movie some room to breathe by not having to devote too much time to Nereus.
