Ranking Every M. Night Shyamalan Plot Twist From Worst To Best

The Plot: Security guard David Dunn is smack dab in the middle of an existential crisis when he meets Elijah Price, a man with extremely fragile bones who calls himself Mr. Glass. Coincidentally, it's around this time that David is involved in numerous "accidents" that should have killed him, yet he always manages to escape unscathed.

The Twist: Mr. Glass, in search of a superhero like the ones he admired so much in the comic books as a kid, orchestrated all of those accidents in the hopes that David would discover his superhuman abilities. Unfortunately, Price also turned himself into a real-life supervillain in the process.

Shyamalan created one of the most interesting superhero films of all time by taking an extremely realistic - thought not necessarily "gritty" - approach to the story, and this ending turns the old "every great hero needs a great villain" idea on its head.

In a way, it's a classic comic book ending. But it's also a little conventional and proved, at least temporarily, that Shyamalan's knack for tossing creative monkey wrenches into his writing wasn't a fluke.
