Ranking Every Nicolas Cage Movie Worst To Best
5. Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
The film that won Nicolas Cage his Best Actor Oscar, Leaving Las Vegas casts him as an alcoholic screenwriter in the midst of drinking himself to death, who enters into a relationship with a downtrodden prostitute (Elisabeth Shue).
This is a deeply upsetting but also extremely compassionate and affecting film, wrought by not only Cage's magnificent performance but Elisabeth Shue's Oscar-nominated work, and an outstanding two-hander from writer-director Mike Figgis.
It may not be your favourite Cage movie, but it is absolutely one of his very best performances - if not his best outright.
4. Moonstruck (1987)
Nominated for six Oscars and ultimately winning three - including Best Actress for Cher - Moonstruck might be the most popularly feted movie in Cage's filmography, an extremely entertaining crowd-pleaser of a romantic comedy.
Though a little of the movie's peppy lustre has faded over the last 30-something years, it's still a smart, insightful, and affecting movie that sees the entire cast on fine form, including a wonderfully over-the-top Cage.
