Nightwatch is another obscure character from Spider-Man's library, and one that does - at a glance - look exactly like Todd McFarlane's famous creation Spawn. McFarlane had, of course, presided over one of the most popular periods in the wall-crawler's history before departing for Image Comics in the early nineties, and Nightwatch was created a little under a year following Spawn's debut.

Dubious history aside, Nightwatch is another of Spider-Man's characters that falls into the bracket of being obscure enough for Sony to do what they want with him, but also one who probably doesn't deserve this much attention. He's a quintessential nineties character, with plenty of style but none of the substance to match.

The character has been scarcely used or referenced outside of the decade, and although the time-travelling premise of a man taking up crimefighting because he saw his future-self doing so is somewhat intriguing, it's probably time for Sony to realise that, while Venom's best years occurred during the nineties, Spider-Man's most certainly did not.
