RottenTomatoes Score: 100% (7.9/10)

Box Office: Made for just over $2 million, Taika Waititi's latest has grossed an impressive $12.6 million so far, mostly from its native New Zealand (where it broke several records) and Australia. Nicely done.

Verdict: An incredibly charming movie about the growing bond between a delinquent boy (Julian Dennison) and his crotchety new foster uncle (Sam Neill), this is another easy win for Waititi, who effortlessly blends outrageous humour with plenty of heart to make this an instant feel-good classic.

Nobody would've been surprised if this felt distinctly lesser than his previous film, What We Do in the Shadows, and yet it measures up to it perfectly. To see Waititi going from this to Thor: Ragnarok, though, is undeniably strange.
