Ranking May 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
1. Love & Friendship
RottenTomatoes Score: 99% (8.4/10)
Box Office: The $3 million period rom-com has made $4.4 million so far. A modest success, then.
Verdict: Filmmaker Whit Stillman's fifth film in 26 years is also his most acclaimed to date, a witty, devilishly funny take on Jane Austen's 1871 novel Lady Susan, combining Stillman's own quirky sensibilities with Austen's sharp tongue to wondrous effect.
Kate Beckinsale gives arguably the best performance of her career as the novel's title character, though the real star is Stillman himself, who conveys Austin's satire and cynicism of the era better than arguably any prior Austen adaptation.
Whereas so many of them lean to the overly dour, self-serious side, Stillman leans the other way while refusing to go full-breeze.
