Ranking May 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
12. How To Talk To Girls At Parties
RottenTomatoes Score: 45% (5.2/10)
Box Office: Budgetary data isn't available, but it's grossed just $50,000 at the box office and mediocre reviews ensure it won't do much VOD business outside of John Cameron Mitchell's fanbase. A bust.
Verdict: A disappointingly slapdash effort from Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Rabbit Hole) that fails to do justice to Neil Gaiman's award-winning source material, this is intermittently intriguing and stylish, but more often than not just weird for weird's sake.
What's supposed to be charming frequently plays as obnoxious and grating, and though Elle Fanning is an appealing lead, Alex Sharp can't quite keep up with her.
Possibly worthwhile for those craving something truly different - regardless of a quality screenplay - but destined to be a polarising cult movie until the end of time.
