Ranking November 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

10. The Light Between Oceans

Fantastic Beasts Arrival Bad Santa 2
Touchstone Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 60% (6.2/10)

Box Office: Made for just $20 million, the film has nevertheless only recouped $21 million worldwide despite an all-star cast. Ouch.

Verdict: Although rather decent, this is still one of the year's most disappointing films, coming from acclaimed writer-director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines).

Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz give strong performances, but Cianfrance's ponderous approach makes the 132-minute drama frequently feel like an exhausting endurance trial rather than a meditative piece of cinema.

It takes far too long to go anywhere and there are countless scenes that just drag on, even if there's quite clearly a brilliant 100-minute movie in here. Cinematography, music and performances are all first-rate, but overall it's a dispiritingly mixed bag.
