Ranking The Rock's Films From Worst To Best

4. Decent Revenge Flicks

Then there's the trio of revenge flicks spread throughout Rock's career, beginning with Walking Tall, in which he essentially spends 90 minutes bashing a town to pieces with a giant block of wood. It's tremendously good fun, and even if there's not much substance to it, The Rock is an easy to guy to root for because he's just so damn likeable. His next revenge flick, Faster, is tragically adorned with the horrible tagline, "Slow justice is no justice", but it's mostly an efficient if rather dark action noir, one elevated by Johnson's firm commitment to being a total badass as much as possible. The best of the bunch is last year's Snitch, which saw Johnson playing a man fighting to get his son out of prison before he is murdered. This is the only film in Johnson's filmography to actually try and make a serious point about something (the US legal system's attitude to drug offences), and though critics were split on how the film conveyed this, Johnson received considerable acclaim for his remarkable performance. The best actors can make even slightly rickety material convincing, and though Snitch was lucky to be blessed with a decent script anyway, it didn't hurt that Johnson was so compelling to watch on screen.
