7. Phoenix
The Dark Phoenix Saga - the comic storyline about how Jean Grey succumbs to the malevolent Phoenix force - is one of the pinnacles of X-Men storytelling, so fans were excited to see this realised on screen for X-Men: The Last Stand. Again, things didnt quite live up to expectations. Though Famke Janssen had been great as Jean previously and her rebirth as Phoenix had been foreshadowed in X-Men 2, The Last Stand was far too bloated and mishandled to do the seminal story justice. The ultra-super-powered character did far too little and mostly just became yet another lackey to Magneto. With Jean soon to be recast as Game Of Thrones Sophie Turner in X-Men: Apocalypse, lets hope we see a better version of the Phoenix in the future.
