Ridley Scott: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

13. G.I. Jane

The Razzie Awards were clearly out to get this film simply because they thought the premise was silly, as there was simply no way that Demi Moore deserved to win the Worst Actress award for her work here. Now, G.I. Jane is an unashamedly ridiculous film, but it's also a terrifically entertaining one, enlivened by Moore's committed work in the lead role (she certainly got in fine shape for it), Viggo Mortensen and Anne Bancroft's stellar supporting performances, and of course, Scott's visually splendid action direction. It's extremely heavy-handed as far as its statement about gender politics goes, and it's hard to take it all that seriously, but it's all good fun and a movie walking a fine line between genuinely entertaining and a guilty pleasure. The solid craftsmanship at least suggests more of the former, and it illustrated just how trend-focused the Razzies are, rather than actually attacking the worst movies of any given year.
