Scream 7: 10 Things We Want To See
4. Actual Stakes For The Central Characters
Another common complaint about Scream VI was the absurd amount of plot armour the central characters had.
For as much as the movie wanted audiences to believe that all bets were off and anybody could die, there wasn't a single major character death throughout the entire film.
The Core Four, Kirby (Hayden Panetierre), and Gale all made it out of the movie in one piece despite sustaining serious damage. In the case of Chad (Mason Gooding), the guy straight-up got stabbed like a dozen times - after suffering a similar fate in the previous film, even - yet somehow survived.
Scream 7 would do well to remind audiences that the series has stakes and the most beloved characters aren't invincible.
Killing off one of the Core Four or even Kirby early in the film would effectively restore the jolting quality lacking in Scream VI.
Of if the filmmakers want to rattle the Core Four in a deeply intimate way, kill either Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad's mother Martha (Heather Matarazzo), or Christina Carpenter herself.
Given that the seventh movie is where most horror franchises go irretrievably off the rails and get desperate keep the box office bucks coming in - Saw 3D, anyone? - giving Scream 7 more elaborate set-pieces, a larger arsenal of weapons for Ghostface, and some truly gnarly deaths would fittingly honour that.
Basically, Scream 7 needs to feel not merely suspenseful but genuinely dangerous.
