Scream 7: 10 Things We Want To See
5. A Totally Original Motive
Now this one's really tough, but six movies into the franchise, it does rather feel like Scream has done several killer reveals and motives to death - the boyfriend, the movie and fame-obsessed psychos, and good old-fashioned revenge.
Scream 7 needs a motive that feels totally fresh and catches fans off-guard - because rehashing another classic twist will simply make the sequel seem lazy.
One fan favourite idea is a "Cult of Ghostface," whereby a clan of countless Ghostface obsessives are working together to copycat their prior work.
Though this is technically a scrapped plot from Scream 3 - originally intended as a cult led by a somehow still-alive Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) - it could certainly be reworked to give Scream 7 the most Ghostface killers of any movie to date.
Another curious idea involves a Ghostface attempting to eliminate all remaining survivors from both eras of Scream/Stab in an attempt to put the franchise to rest for good and prevent the ongoing collateral damage. A tricky concept to pull off, but it could be fun.
And if the filmmakers want to get really bold, what about having no motive whatsoever? The new Ghostface is just a garden variety psychopath and that's it - though this absolutely risks pissing off a huge swath of the fanbase.
The point here is that Scream 7 needs to majorly mix up the killer's motives, lest it feel like it's lifting too liberally from the series' prior successes.
