Scream VI Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
5. The Refreshing New York Setting
Though the Scream series has moved away from Woodsboro twice in the past, Scream VI is the first movie in the franchise to take place in New York City, and it was certainly a smart move to give the film its own distinct flavour.
The smoky urban sprawl of NYC couldn't feel much more different to sunny California, the densely-packed metropolis proving a far more convincing locale for Ghostface to operate in relative anonymity among so many millions of busy strangers.
It goes without saying that the much-hyped set-piece featuring Ghostface on the NYC subway is an absolute blast, and for all of the film's many flaws, this felt like the right time to take the carnage to the other side of the U.S.
