Scream VI Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. It Proves The Series Doesn't Need Sidney
Let's address the elephant in the room - no, Neve Campbell is not in Scream VI in any way, shape, or form, so don't go in expecting a surprise third-act return from Sidney.
Campbell chose not to return due to her salary requests not being met, and while it's an unfortunate situation that the series' leading lady got lowballed by Paramount, ultimately the film doesn't really suffer from her absence.
The previous film already began the process of transitioning out the legacy trio, what with Dewey's (David Arquette) death and Gale (Courteney Cox) and Sidney's rather limited screen time.
Scream VI follows this lead, with Gale ultimately having a relatively contained role that doesn't in any way feel essential to the fabric of the story. Sidney is briefly mentioned, of course, but if she never returns to the series it seems like it'll do just fine without her.
That said, don't be shocked if Paramount comes to terms with Campbell and she does return for the inevitable, already-in-the-works Scream 7.
