Shang-Chi: Every Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Ying Nan

Shang Chi
Marvel Studios

Ying Nan (Michelle Yeoh) is Shang-Chi and Xialing's aunt and the sister to their late mother, who is waiting for them when they find their way to Ta Lo.

Though Nan has a surprisingly small role considering the actress playing her - she doesn't show up until close to the third act - she's utterly captivating every time she's on screen, and with Yeoh in the role would you ever expect anything less?

Nan is a compelling portrait of dignity and power, helping Shang-Chi become his best self even if, disappointingly, she doesn't really get up to much in the action stakes herself.

Nan is used more for character development purposes and to drop crucial exposition, which might seem like a bit of a waste of Yeoh's skills, but she's so damn good regardless it's tough to care too much.

She makes the absolute most of every second she's in the movie, bringing a real warmth and gravitas to the role.
