So how about something completely different?

If Marvel Studios wants to live up to its promise of bringing us new Spider-Man experiences, they could do worse than enlisting the services of Dr. Michael Morbius as Spidey's next on-screen rival.

Morbius's science-based attempt to cure his own rare blood disorder saw him turn full-on vampire, with all of the strengths and weaknesses these mythological creatures traditional have.

Not only is Morbius a fascinating mixture of darkness and light, striving to use his powers for good despite struggling to contain his insatiable bloodlust, his inclusion in the Homecoming sequel could mark the dawning of a new era for the MCU.

Marvel's movie arm has already experimented with sci-fi and cosmic themes, so why not horror to add another flavour to its shared cinematic universe?

Bringing Morbius into the frame could also pave the way for a forgotten hero to enter the MCU - Blade. If Marvel decides it's time to shake things up and go darker, this could be their starting point.
