7. Captain America Is A War Criminal

One of the most entertaining links to the MCU throughout the movie is the recurring presence of Captain America, who appears in a series of public service announcement videos played at Peter's school.

They're a hilarious send-up of the Cap persona, eliciting some of the biggest laughs of the entire film (especially the last one), but there's also a throwaway line within there that speaks to the current state-of-play involving Steve Rogers.

When showing the tapes, Peter's teach off-handedly remarks that he's pretty sure "this guy is a war criminal now". That's not a big surprise, given the events of Civil War, and it doesn't officially state he is a war criminal, but it seems like we can take that as a given. It's a big tag to put on someone who is supposed to be a superhero and the representation of truth and justice, and may not be easily shaken off - this is a couple of months after Civil War.

Captain America is going to have to re-emerge in some form for Avengers: Infinity War, but it doesn't seem like there'll be a simple fix. That in turn fits with the idea that he won't be Cap at all, at least not initially, and that we might instead get some take on the Nomad character he becomes in the comics.
