Spider-Man: Homecoming Vs Spider-Man 2 - Which Is Better?
7. Music
Danny Elfman returned to provide the score for Spider-Man 2, though he clashed so harshly with Sam Raimi during production that he famously declared, "I would rather go back to waiting tables than to do Spider-Man 2 again."
The main criticism of the movie's score is that it's too derivative of the first film, and fair though that is, the Doc Ock theme is all kinds of awesome, and the score is certainly nothing if not incredibly memorable overall.
The brilliant Michael Giacchino provided the score for Homecoming, and while it's certainly not his best score this year (that'd be War for the Planet of the Apes), his spirited orchestral rendition of the classic Spider-Man cartoon theme is especially excellent.
The score definitely peaks with its first theme and never quite recaptures the same brilliance, but it's solid work all the same.
Winner: This is a tough one to call, but Elfman still pulled off iconic work in spite of the behind-the-scenes troubles, while a big chunk of Giacchino's score doesn't really touch the sides. Elfman clinches it, but admittedly not by a whole lot.
