Star Trek: 10 Exact Moments We Knew These Characters Were Doomed

7. Malik - The Augments

There's a fairly straightforward rule in Star Trek, and that is to avoid genocide as much as possible. When one has sunk to the level of wiping out entire nations and worlds, there really isn't much leeway to come back again. This is where Arik Soong finally saw the error in his ways, and the moment that the audience knew Malik wasn't going to be joining Starfleet any time soon.

Having escaped from Cold Station 12 with Augmented embryos, Malik suggests firing biogenic weapons at a planet to stop any pursuers coming after them. He is also unable to simply turn tail and run from Starfleet, citing Khan's famous flight aboard the Botany Bay after the Eugenics Wars.

Soong is livid, unable to condone such an action that will lead to so much suffering. Though he would go on to attempt to convince Malik to come back from the brink of madness, his son has fallen too far. Though Soong survives, thanks to Enterprise's intervention, Malik, along with the rest of the Augments, is killed when their Raptor explodes.
