Star Trek: Ranking The Movies From Best To Worst

2. Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

trek resistance First Contact is of course the first film to solely feature the Next Generation cast, and was also the directorial debut for Jonathan Frakes. While this may sound like it could've turned out badly, it is instead remembered as being one of the best Star Trek films of all time. The plot is a little difficult to accurately describe, but basically shows a Borg Cube attacking Earth, and when it's about to be destroyed it ejects a small sphere towards Earth, which is then pursued by the Enterprise. The sphere creates a time distortion and travels back to the mid-21st century, where they nearly destroy the Phoenix, the ship that becomes the first human vessel to achieve warp speed. In order to make sure the warp speed jump happens (and in turn humanity makes first contact with alien life) some of the Enterprise crew beam down to help rebuild the ship, while on the Enterprise they must fight against a small army of Borg that have made their way on board. The Good: Patrick Stewart puts on a stellar performance as a man driven mad with his obsession for revenge, and James Cromwell steals the other half of the film as Zefram Cochrane; the action and story balance out perfectly; and the Borg have never ever been better. The Bad: Some mildly lame moments when the Borg Queen is trying to convince Data to betray his crew mates. The Ugly: The Borg Queen. But her appearance actually helps the film maintain its creepy atmosphere.
