A rather shocking revelation that came from Episode 1was in regards to how the force works and even how it came to be.

Qui-Gon talks to Anakin about the force but instead of the usual mystical ideas expressed by Obi-Wan and Yoda in not only the original trilogy, but the sequels as well, Qui-Gon brings up these random bacterial creatures called Midichlorians that are interconnected with the force.

Not only are these creatures somehow related to the force, but they also birthed Anakin Skywalker in a Jesus-esk method and are never brought up after episode 1.

Thankfully the Midichlorians are not really discussed again due to their just out of nowhere replacement of the force than most fans didn't question before. And they also gave Anakin a DragonBall Z like power level to show that he is "the chosen one", which Anakin obviously had over 9000.
