Star Wars: 10 Awkward Prequel Moments Fans Will Never Forget
3. Padme's Death From Sadness
In the least liked movie of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi, Leia, and Luke come to the realization that they are, in fact, twin siblings. This out of nowhere plot twist came to the complete disgust of every fan and even Han Solo himself due to the now weird love triangle that was in the first two films. Leia comes to realize this after talking to Luke about her/their mother.
In Return of the Jedi Leia simply states that her mom was beautiful, kind, and also sad, dying when Leia was very young. When episode 3 rolled around and showed us the birth of the children of Darth Vader, there was a lot that was different from what Leia remembers.
Padme was forced into labor after suffering a brutal Force choke form her husband Anakin on Mustafar as he slowly fell into the dark side of the Force. yet she gave birth and remained healthy but according to the medical robot assigned to her, she was dying because she "lost the will to live."
Leia couldn't possibly have remembered Padme as she was born second to Luke and then Padme died immediately afterward, making both children have no memory of their mother. Most fans felt that her death was written extremely poorly to simply keep the continuity of Darth Vader being evil and her death from literal sadness was made fun of after the film's release.
