5. Life Under Hutt Rule

As with so many profiteers who made their money off the misery of others, the fortunes of the Hutt Clan or the Hutt Cartel waxed and waned depending on the fortunes of the galaxy and their ability to stay out of the line of fire. Meanwhile, anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves living under the control of a Hutt, like Jabba for instance, had little to look forward to in their life.

On Tatooine, the institution of slavery is seen as a symbol of wealth and prestige among the slave owners, and they are highly reluctant to part with their “possessions”, although there are a few, like the Toydarian junk dealer Watto who would make wagers with his slaves as the prize if he thought the odds were stacked deeply in his favor or he could cheat. All slave transactions and disputes were overseen by the Hutts.

As a whole, be it slavery or indentured servitude, the work was hard and often degrading and demoralizing. Often, attractive female slaves were forced to wear revealing clothing and dance for the amusement of paying customers or even Jabba himself at his palace. Failure to please Jabba often resulted in a dinner date with the Rancor - with that person as the main course!
