Star Wars: 10 Weird Expanded Universe Things We're Glad Aren't Canon Anymore
4. The Sun Crusher
Disney may have gotten a bit carried away with Star Wars superweapons when they introduced the planetary system-crushing Starkiller Base in 2015's The Force Awakens. However, fans who found that to be overkill may need to brush up on their Expanded Universe lore, as it contains superweapons that are much more ridiculous.
The Sun Crusher was a mysterious weapon which, despite being the size of an average fighter, was capable of destroying entire star systems by causing the system's star to go supernova. Somehow outclassing even the most deadly star destroyers, the Sun Crusher was coated in layers of nearly impenetrable armor, and it could even sustain a blast from a Death Star super laser.
Fans have expressed contempt for the Star Wars films and their reliance on super-powered macguffins, but the Sun Crusher, had it appeared in any of the movies, would easily have been the worst offender. The first and second Death Star may have been intimidating, but this little ship goes far beyond that. Perhaps it will show up in Episode IX as the ultimate unstoppable weapon to surpass the First Order's previous galaxy-destroying efforts.
