Star Wars: 10 Weird Expanded Universe Things We're Glad Aren't Canon Anymore
5. Empatojayos Brand
The story of Empatojayos Brand may end in hilarity, but he actually begins with a pretty interesting backstory. One of the few survivors of Palpatine's Jedi Purge near the end of the Clone Wars, Brand spent the years following the rise of the Empire on the run from none other than Darth Vader himself. Vader nearly destroyed Brand in 10 BBY on one of Nar Shaddaa's moons, though he was discovered and kept alive by the primitive Ganathan people.
Grievously injured during his encounter with Vader, the Ganathan's fitted Brand with a prosthetic body which was little more than a metal sphere. As a result, he looked completely ridiculous and was difficult to take seriously.
He was able to exact his revenge on the Empire, however. After the destruction of the second Death Star, Brand joined the new Jedi Order created by Luke Skywalker, whom he accompanied in a final battle with the resurrected Darth Sidious. Before his death, he managed to capture the Emperor's soul and drag it with him to the Netherworld of the Force from which it could never escape. Pretty cool story for a ball.
