Star Wars: 8 Things That The Sequel Trilogy Got RIGHT
2. The Soundtrack
You can make the best-looking movie of all time, with outstanding special effects, earth-shattering action set-pieces and iconic characters. But if it sounds awful, you might as well not have bothered.
Part of ensuring that your film is a treat for the ear as well as the eye is composing an outstanding soundtrack. And John Williams simply doesn’t do anything less than outstanding.
The Star Wars theme. Duel of the Fates. The Imperial March. All from Williams’s genius mind and that’s just talking about Star Wars. When he was called back to the franchise for The Force Awakens, the maestro showed that even when he’s pushing ninety, he still has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Just from The Force Awakens soundtrack we have Rey’s Theme, a delicately light motif that helps the viewer empathise with our new hero the second she is introduced onscreen. There’s also the thrilling March of the Resistance, a sort of light side version of the Imperial March that kicks any X-wing scene into high gear.
Here’s hoping that John Williams is scoring the soundtrack to our film experiences for a long while yet.
