Star Wars: 9 Burning Questions About Lando's Return In Episode IX

Most importantly, will Lando be filling the void left by Fischer's untimely passing?

In the immediate aftermath of Fischer's death, Lucasfilm insiders said that Fischer was set to have two key scenes in Episode VIII and IX; one being a reunion with Luke Skywalker and one being a personal confrontation with Kylo Ren. Last Jedi graciously reunited Luke and Leia for a tear-inducing scene, leaving that personal confrontation with Kylo to be the scene left out for IX.

Granted, all of this was before the film was completely rewritten and changed directors, but it's fair to assume that that would have still been in the cards, were it not for Ficher's death. But with Lando coming back, he could potentially be the one to fill that void.

Considering that Daniel José Older's novel, Last Shot, has already done a great deal of legwork setting up Lando's relationship with the young Ben Solo, this could work exceedingly well. Lando may not be Kylo's mother, but he's a prominent figure from his past who has lost several close loved ones at the hands of Kylo Ren.

Here's hoping for a personal and emotionally-charged confrontation between Lando and Kylo Ren come December of 2019.
