Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Ways It Will Resemble JJ Abrams' Star Trek

4. Goofy Humour

Star Trek One of the few things I wasn't so keen on in 2009's Star Trek was the consistently goofy humour, be it the silly one-liners or the physical comedy involving Kirk being tranquilised, or worst of all, Kirk suffering from swollen hands and running around in pantomime-like fashion. I suppose it's an homage to the inherent silliness of the original TV series, but all it did was make me cringe, and it seemed somwhat at odds with the gritty tone of the action scenes throughout. Thankfully, Into Darkness toned this down considerably, though still couldn't resist a few corny wise-cracks, most notably Spock's horrendous mimicking of the classic line "Khaaaaaaaaan!" in light of Kirk's "death" in the radiation chamber. To be fair, the Star Wars films have always had their share of silly humour, what with the Ewoks and countless characters clearly just there to sell some merchandise (we're looking at you, Jar-Jar), so why should we expect any different here? In fact, people would probably be disappointed if it wasn't a bit daft.
