Star Wars Episode 8: 6 Major Details Lucasfilm Just Revealed
5. They've Reshot The Ending Of The Force Awakens
You'd think a simple production announcement would provide very little in terms of what the movie is about, but this first look at Episode VIII is actually built around something pretty major; Rian Johnson has reshot the ending of The Force Awakens. Now you may at first think that this is merely tricksy editing between the actors and the crew, or perhaps even a low-key reveal that Johnson guest directed Episode VII's climactic scene, but that's not the case; this version of Rey and Luke on the island is bathed in low sunlight, whereas the scene in the finished film had a cloudy sky. This means one of two things; either Johnson's recreated the previous movie's ending to avoid giving away anything more than that the production's returned to Skellig Michael (something we already knew) or the movie will pick up exactly where the last left off. While I'm inclined to think it's the former - that'd fit with Lucasfilm's extreme security techniques - I almost hope it's the latter; that first meeting between Rey and Luke is going to be a pretty important moment in the saga and Episode VIII has enough backstory to deal with already without having to explain it through expository dialogue.
