Star Wars Episode 8: 6 Major Details Lucasfilm Just Revealed
4. Maz Kanata's Back
It was obvious that all of the key players were going to return (we even got confirmation Captain Phasma escaped her garbage compacter run-in), but one supporting character people were unsure would be making an appearance in Episode VIII was Maz Kanata. She was inexplicably dropped from The Force Awakens during the attack on her castle and left on Takodana after the Resistance saved the day. Part of this was due to her role in the plot changing at the last minute (she was originally meant to meet Leia), but that still put her place in the saga going forward in doubt. Well, fans of the small-eared, big-eyed orange Yoda can sleep happy - Lupita Nyongo's not only back for Episode VIII, but also possibly in a larger role; she's just after the main stars on the cast list. Maz was one bit of Episode VII I wasn't totally convinced by, especially as those changes from the trailers seemed to weaken her personality (she went from enigmatic to eccentric), but the idea of beings who are in tune with the Force while not being able to wield it is certainly an interesting, galaxy-expanding one. And, if Rey isn't going to Luke's kid, then she'll likely be key in solving that big parental mystery.
