Remember playing Crash Bandicoot, Rayman or Spyro The Dragon when you were younger? Remember how you'd fail a stage over and over, learn from your mistakes, and finally nail it on a perfect run?

Well, we can apply a similar scenario to the news that Abrams is returning to direct another Star Wars movie.

How? His experience making The Force Awakens will directly inform the creative process on Episode IX. Any mistakes he made or problems he had on the former, he'll be able to fix when making the latter.

He'll have read thousands of fan comments and watched all those angry YouTube videos telling him exactly what he did wrong with Episode VII. He'll know what worked, and what didn't. Filmmaking is like playing those games as a kid; whatever you do wrong on your first attempt, you can learn from on your second.

The Force Awakens can be viewed as the test run, as Abrams just getting his feet wet. He's now completely immersed in the Star Wars directorial process, and this experience will allow him to smooth out the kinks he encountered on his first go around.
