More than anything, this second trailer really tells the most compelling story yet to be told in Star Wars. No, not how the Death Star plans were retrieved - that's very much a secondary concern.
The real story here is the previously neglected story of the ground-level suffering endured by those under the Empire's control. This is very much a Resistance film in the most traditional sense of the word: a movie about enduring tyranny in your everyday life and rising up. Not princesses and pirates and magical space wizards - real people touched by the hand of war.
And as such, it already feels like a more relatable story, even in this vast universe: this trailer sees the cost of the Empire to its characters in more than just a vague ideological sense. And that is key to driving the drama.
