Lando's not alone coming into this movie, as he'll be accompanied by a new buddy - one he doesn't have, as far as we know, in the Original Trilogy - in the form of the droid L3-37, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The pair will have a real partnership and a fun dynamic in this movie - already glimpsed by their hand gestures in the Falcon during the trailer - with Glover saying the relationship is "lovingly contentious."

Being played by Waller-Bridge, who displays her comic talents in the brilliant Fleabag, L3 should be extremely funny. We've seen droids provide comic relief in Star Wars before, of course, but apparently L3 will be different to the likes of C-3PO and K-2SO. The description of her is a droid who is, in a way, self-made, with co-writer Jon Kasdan saying: "The idea is that she’s sort of a mutt, if you will, of various parts of different kinds of droids who has improved upon herself.”

Jon's father and co-writer on the movie, Lawrence, explained more about her relationship with Lando and how, even though the droid is motion-capture, Waller-Bridge's personality shines through:

“She has a working relationship with Lando, and it’s very sophisticated and informed by years of working together. And, Phoebe, herself, is hilarious. The effect that she will appear in is amazing, but she comes through very strongly even with this astounding [CGI], both her humour and her physicality. If you meet Phoebe, she’s one of these people you just fall in love with immediately.”
