Star Wars: Solo - 10 New Details Lucasfilm Just Revealed
7. Childish Landino
We haven't even heard Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian speak, and already he's the real star of the movie. He looks, as Billy Dee Williams' version did before him, like the coolest person in the galaxy - though Glover denies he's the best dressed in the movie - and looking smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy.
The man now dubbed Childish Landino spoke to EW about taking on and fleshing out a fan-favourite, and what we can expect from him in this movie.
"I always like seeing younger characters when they are in younger times because it tells a lot about how they got to where they are. Like, when I was a teenager I felt like I knew a lot, but I didn’t. By the time we meet him in Empire Strikes Back, he owns the city already. [Laughs] So, I wanted to show the person he was before that was even possible. Like, I don’t even know if he thought that was possible at the time.
"I think he’s probably a little more over the top because he’s not old enough to be like, you don’t have to push so hard by the time you own the city. By then he’s like, I don’t need to prove anything to anybody, you know?"
The way he dresses is definitely a little outlandish, and he's obviously a character with a lot of charm too. We know we're going to see his relationship with Han develop, alongside him losing the Falcon to the smuggler in a game of Sabacc. Describing the difference between the pair, Glover said:
"Lando likes rules... He’s smart enough to figure out a way to like get out of things, like loopholes, And I think Han is more of a rule breaker and he can kind of get away with it."
