Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Final Trailer
5. The Mandalorian Flag
No Star Wars movie has ever existed in a vacuum, always clearly part of a bigger story (that was a key motivation behind the whole franchise in the first place), but it's never been more true than with The Force Awakens. It's not only starting a new trilogy, but comes accompanied with a plethora of tie-in material, as well as hype around the more classic-era Rebels and Rogue One. And, because they're so much to the universe to acknowledge, you can bet there's gonna be a lot of cool easter eggs. We actually get one of those in the trailer, tucked up at the top of the oddly awesome shot of Han, Rey, Finn and BB-8 (no Chewie?) walking into an old-looking building (which is pretty much definitely the residence of Maz Kanata, Lupita Nyong'o's pirate) as a bizarre, gigantic droid walks past. In amongst all those flags with various logos and insignias, visible just as the shot fades out, is the Mandalorian symbol, the Mythosaur skull (not, as misreported by other outlets, a Jiang skull). Essentially an entire culture built around the iconography of Boba Fett - their key traits are being morally ambiguous and always decked out in that signature armour - the Mandolorians have been one of the few major elements from the now-defunct Extended Universe that have been fully assimilated into the new main continuity; they featured heavily in The Clone Wars and Rebels main character Sabine sports a colourful version of the costume. However, this likely just a fun shout out, something for the fans to pick up on and add a bit of universe depth to the movie, rather than hinting at any Mando action.
