3. He's Darth Plagueis

This is a theory you've probably seen a lot of over the past month or so, and to be fair, it's easy to understand why. Supreme Leader Snoke is the right age to be the Emperor's former Master, and there's nothing to say that he couldn't have survived the attack which Palpatine believed left him dead. Bear in mind that the one time Chancellor did actually tell Anakin that Plagueis was researching a way to cheat death! The theory sounds so plausible that you're probably wondering by now why it's included here, but the fact that it would be such an obvious reveal is probably a strong indication that there's no way it will happen. The backlash might be something Disney want to avoid too as you need only look at Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness and Blofeld in Spectre for proof of how such easy to telegraph plot twists often do a movie no favours. Other issues with this include the fact that Lucasfilm were at one point planning on making Snoke female and didn't lock in his final appearance until a fairly late stage in production, proving that they never had a solid Plagueis plan from the start. Throw in the villain being a big part of the scrapped Expanded Universe, and you can bet that there's no way he's making it into Disney's plans for their Star Wars Universe.
