The sequence captures every stage of the progression of the post-crash scene, from concept art, through model design and right through to the completed larger scale model. 

Clearly, no corners are being cut, no unnecessary CGI is being pushed, and there's a very clear message that Abrams and his team are committed to making the film as practical as humanly possible.

 Even with the technological advances made since the prequel trilogy, that is good news, and so is the production's continued reliance on traditional filming alongside IMAX camera-work.
