Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Concerns Raised By The Full Trailer

2. The Suggestions Of A Lore-Heavy Episode

When Star Wars gets too reliant on lore, bad things happen.

You only need to cite the incident with the midi-chlorians, which turned out to be George Lucas's fatal mistake from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (not including Jar Jar), to understand how over-explaining certain aspects of the mythology can throw absolutely everything into contention.

So there's a shot of some very authentic-looking books in The Last Jedi trailer which suggest the unveiling of information - something prophesied, perhaps, that will change the way we look at the events of the entire franchise.

Maybe, maybe not. The fear here, though, is that this mysterious book is going to alter some deeply ingrained aspects of the mythology. And we must remember that Star Wars doesn't work when things like "the Force" are explained outright. It's far better when things just are, sometimes, without too much information.

Let's hope that whatever's in that book doesn't go all deus ex machina on us for the sake of it. Mystical books have never been a big part of the franchise, which always felt appropriate: who wants characters pouring over old books to deliver exposition, anyway? Is this a trope we actually need to resort to?
