Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Rumours That Were Total Bull

9. Snoke Is Darth Plagueis

The Rumour: This rumour has been around as long as Supreme Leader Snoke has been known about, that he is in fact the legendary Sith Lord Darth Plagueis, whose mastery of the Force was so pervasive he was apparently able to conquer death (as explained to Anakin by Palpatine in Attack of the Clones)

Though clearly a fanboy fancy, the theory did have one semi-compelling piece of evidence: in addition to being tall and thin like Plagueis, Snoke has a deep scar atop his forehead, which would fit with Palpatine's claim that Plagueis was "killed" in his sleep by his apprentice, but in reality actually managed to survive, albeit with traumatic injuries.

The Truth: Surprisingly little is actually revealed about Snoke in The Last Jedi, which wouldn't in of itself debunk the theory except for the fact that Snoke ends up sliced in half and killed by Kylo Ren two-thirds of the way through the movie.

If Snoke was ever going to be revealed as Plagueis, it certainly would've happened already. Instead, Snoke was basically a bait-and-switch villain, an ultimately inconsequential baddie who served to further prop Kylo Ren up as the new trilogy's ultimate antagonist.

It worked wonderfully, even if it meant that all those fanboy dreams went up in smoke.
