Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Rumours That Were Total Bull

The Rumour: The biggest mystery coming away from The Force Awakens was the nature of Rey's parentage, and of course, just about everyone had their own opinion about who in the Star Wars universe she is related to.

The most popular theory was that Rey would be related to Luke himself, who left her on Jakku to ensure she could never be traced back to him. Elsewhere, some threw Obi-Wan Kenobi's hat into the ring, while the likes of Palpatine and even Snoke were considered outside possibilities.

The Truth: Rey spends much of The Last Jedi attempting to uncover the identity of her parents, though it's eventually Kylo Ren who explains the cold, hard truth: they were junker nobodies who abandoned her.

Considering that the Star Wars franchise is already wildly incestuous enough as it is, it was a huge relief that Rian Johnson opted to make Rey stand on her own rather than be pointlessly related to an established character in the name of easy fan service. Bravo.
