Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Rumours That Were Total Bull
6. The Opening Scene Is Han Solo's Funeral
The Rumour: After Han Solo is killed by Kylo Ren near the end of The Force Awakens, many fans reasonably suspected that The Last Jedi would open with Han Solo's funeral, an emotionally stirring beat on which to kick off the movie.
The rumour was further fueled by set reports suggesting that a scene resembling a funeral was being shot.
The Truth: Though Han is mentioned several times throughout the film, there's no funeral scene to speak of, which makes sense considering that Han was ultimately a rogue smuggler, and to give him some grand, operatic funeral just wouldn't make much sense.
John Boyega put it best while doing press for the film, though: "The pressure’s on. There’s no time...I’m sure we’d all feel sentimental. But Rey is out training, she’s got stuff to do. Finn’s got stuff to do. I can’t think about Han at the moment."
A funeral scene would've undermined the urgency of the First Order closing in on the Resistance, and while it sure would've been a sight to see, it ultimately wasn't necessary to move the story along.
