Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Big Questions We Have After The Trailer

4. Will Luke And Rey Turn On Each Other?

One thing that The Last Jedi’s marketing has built up is a friction between Luke and Rey.

In the first trailer, Luke states that he wants the Jedi to end, and all those images of Mr. Skywalker dressed in dark robes are directly contrasted by images of Rey, who is always seen in light-coloured outfits. Are the two set to have a major falling out in The Last Jedi?

Based on the new footage in this trailer, it certainly seems that way.

There’s the obvious line about Rey’s power scaring Luke - which could lead to him opposing her, in an attempt to stop her going down the same path Kylo Ren did - then, there’s the above shot of Luke on the ground, as though he’s just been knocked over in defeat, and another shot of Rey slowly standing up, staring at him, as though the two are about to face off.

And finally, Luke’s line “this is not going to go… the way you think!” makes it sound like Rey is running off, or is getting ready to fight him. The way he emphasises the word “think” also makes him sound strained, like he just lunged at someone while saying it, or suddenly drew out his lightsaber.

We know that The Last Jedi will present us with an older, wearier Luke than we’re used to, and his reluctance to help Rey develop her powers could be the catalyst that drives the two apart.
