Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Major Plot Theories You Need To Know

1. Rey And Poe Are Connected

There are no shortage of "character X is connected to character y" Star Wars theories, but the notion that Poe Dameron and Rey are somehow linked is one of the more fun, convincing theories The Last Jedi has to offer.

The first indicator here is that the two characters meet onscreen for the first time right at the end of the movie. That's two of the "big three" (modern trilogy big three) not having any interactions until the very end of the second movie in a three-film story. Isn't that a little odd? This suggests there's still a lot left to explore between the two, something that will carry forward into Episode IX.

Another big factor is that Poe might be Force sensitive, just like Rey.

The comic-book series Star Wars: Shattered Empire features a Force-tree. An offshoot of this tree eventually finds its way to Shara Bey - Poe's mother - who plants it in her garden on Yavin 4.

Poe grows up around this tree, playing on it and being around it daily. Could this have affected him and made him Force-sensitive, allowing him and Rey to form an as-yet unexplored mental connection?

And lastly, The Last Jedi itself contains a blatant nod to a possible link between the two characters. In the scene where Snoke attacks Rey, Rey screams, then the camera immediately cuts to Poe waking up suddenly. It’s like he felt her pain, sensing a disturbance in the Force that causes him to jolt awake. Connections like this are seen throughout Star Wars; Leia's reaction when Han dies, for example.

This link between the two doesn't necessarily mean they're brother and sister, or family of any kind. In fact, there doesn't have to be a link at all - yet. Details like the shot of Poe waking up may have been added to hint at a future romance between the two, a subtle bit of foreshadowing for Episode IX.

Or, they could be long-lost siblings. Whatever floats your boat.
