While Rey could be going over to the Dark Side, could Kylo Ren be heading in the opposite direction? He's already changed sides once, but there's been a lot of talk as to whether he is now irredeemable, since he killed not just his father, but one of the greatest and most beloved characters in Star Wars history.

Rian Johnson isn't saying he will be redeemed, but the door for further exploration of the duality to Ben Solo/Kylo Ren is certainly wide open. The director said:

"There’s a big part of the story yet to be written and not by me. But I don’t think it’s very interesting if the whole story is just ‘Will Kylo get his comeuppance?’ He’s a more complicated character than that and I think he deserves a more complicated story than that. I don’t see the point of trying to get behind his mask and learn more about him if all we’re going to learn is ‘Yeah, he’s just an evil bad guy that needs to be killed.’”

This is echoed by Adam Driver, who says: "Anybody that’s committed to anything, at a certain point in their life … you kind of constantly question why you got into it in the first place."

The shot of Kylo offering his hand to someone was tricksy editing designed to make us think it's Rey, and while it's not the same sequence as Rey's "I need someone" line, there's still a good chance he and Rey will join forces - the question is whether that'll be on the Dark Side, the Light, or somewhere in the middle, or if they'll oppose each other again but with their roles reversed?
