That said, The Joker has appeared on screen plenty of times. Heath Ledgers reinvention was so radical because audiences could compare it to previous depictions of the character, from Cesar Romeros camp as Christmas take in the sixties Batman series to Jack Nicholsons similarly unhinged (but clean shaven) portrayal as a dancing devil in the pale moonlight in Tim Burtons take on the Dark Knight. You know whos been blessed with a lot less screen time, and is just as worthy of it? The Jokers girlfriend, Harley Quinn! She made her first appearance in the nineties animated series before leaping over into the comics, and recently shes become one of DCs première characters, thanks to appearances in the aforementioned Arkham games (with a radically redesigned costume) leading to a best selling, totally bonkers solo series. Obviously she cant really exist without Mr J - she went from mild-mannered psychologist to insane supervillain thanks to her love for him - but shes grown into an interesting character in her own right; seeing both in Suicide Squad would be a treat.
