Sundance 2022: 20 Films You Need To Know About

4. Something In The Dirt

Indie-horror masters Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Spring, The Endless) return with a low-fi experimental horror-comedy they made during the pandemic with a skeleton crew.

Something in the Dirt is a tricky film to characterise, but one centered around two newly acquainted neighbours (Benson and Moorhead) who encounter a seemingly impossible supernatural phenomenon and attempt to figure out how to exploit it for financial gain.

The result is an utterly bewildering odyssey which branches off in countless tangential directions while mining its protagonists' heightening paranoia for every uneasy drop.

Superbly filmed on a clearly low budget and compellingly acted by its filmmaker leads, Something in the Dirt is a mesmerising gem that proves the power of ingenuity over piles of money.
